Tons of reviews have come out…The Dirty Picture is about Vidya Balan, Vidya Balan and only Vidya Balan. If the juries do not acknowledge her with an award, critical or otherwise, it would be a shame! …. And, I will be surprised if you haven’t seen it until now at a theater near you or from other sources. Ekta Kapoor’s banner has delivered, the dialogue is memorable, has The Dirty Picture taken over Kolaveri… mmm may be may be not | we are speaking of different genres here, one a song, the other a full-fledged movie…. Anyways, the cash registers are ticking, the internet media is abuzz… a box office hit anywhere in the country irrespective of its setting – metro, urban, rural.
So what do I add to these reviews, my two pence
mmmmmmm….. I became a fan of our dearest serial kisser Emran Hashmi after watching this picture. His smile, that’s where I fell for…
And the character he essayed: the satire hits you because he has done the role.
A direct contrast to what he does in his real-reel avatar. In the Dirty Picture, Hashmi’s played the role of a director, Abraham, who stands for quality filmmaking. According to Abraham, then, a titillating item number should not be the mark of a success of a film. Therefore, he is opposed to the character of Silk and the kind of interventions she makes in the films to trigger the cash register.
His criticisms are razor edge sharp… directed at artists who are involved in the kind of films which run because of the scandal of a kiss or a strip; films he is associated with all the time
This then creates the satire… he who is known just for his scandalous kisses
imparts the punch
Therefore, the sight of contradiction.
Verdict: 3/5
- Standing ovation to Vidya Balan | The film would have been soft porn if done by any other actor
- Nasseruddin Shah – imitated an aging womanizer of a superstar to the T, still LOLing at this golden dhoti in the song oooolaaa laaa ooolaaalaa..
- Tusshar Kapoor is a waste of time and money, when will his realize that!
- The dialogue - memorable, award-winning
![]()
- The first half is really good – tight script, good tempo, no lapses.
- The second half – could have been shorter by at least half an hour, the last song shot at the Golconda Fort was unnecessary… there was a laxity in it, which did not match the brilliance of the first half
- Prosthetic makeup of the older Priyanka Chopra in the film 7 Khoon Maaf was way better than Vidya Balan’s puffed up cheeks in the end of the movie.
- Audience: Watched the movie screened to a fully packed audience, men and women in almost equal number at 10:30 am on a Saturday morning, when not a single store other than McD was open in the mall, when the roads were just beginning to get trafficed, and when most people were waking up to another lazy long weekend if Monday was a holiday.

First!!!!
Absolutely…
I couldn’t be enticed enough by any of the reviews dear…I have yet to see it…or I might see it in a month’s time when it’ll be free…on tv
Jokes apart…even in the promos Vidya seemed to try too hard to fit into the role..which is so obviously not her type.
Your post is the only one which has left Vidya aside and talked about Hashmi, it might qualify as his fan page too I guess
Hey Varsh,
See the movie, it’s a good one and Vidya Balan is the hero or what we can call ‘shero’ She’s just brilliant, she’s definitely going to win awards… Hashmi well, give him roles like these and he’ll be popular too for the right reasons
Now i got to see this movie
Watch it for the guts of Ms Balan and the dialogue… well that is all the movie is all about, the rest is mmm ok
Happy watching, Biks
Didn;t you feel though that Vidya oozed so much more “sexiness” in her Ishiqa avtaar…i thought she was soo hot there!
Having said that yes i enjoyed the movie, though the overdrive of praise made me expect much much more. I somehow feel they tried to put in a lot of “happenings’ and dont let you dwell into the thought process of Silk
Actually, I felt that there were too many movements with the tongue.. the tongue was the focus and somehow it was stereotyped, and the only way to ooze the so called sexiness was with it.. problem.. definitely…
Yes, she was “naturally sexy” in Ishqiya…
The script was a flash forwarded version of Silk’s life, if it is… so…
Agree to all of it nuttie nuts… otherwise, how are things with you…
I agree with Nuttie here… that wise Vidya was much better in Ishqiya…and also that in latter half she kind of lost the punches….
and agree or not the movie is based on Silk’s life or say inspired from her life story but then I felt that it went to a slightly different tangent towards the end!
Mmmm.. the end was generalized if that is what you are getting at. But the circumstances are part of her life, at least the flop film, bankruptcy and the suicide… the film would have been worthwhile with just the first half!!
Agree with you on Vidya in Ishiqiya
I am yet to watch this movie,i am a fan of silk smitha, badly wanted to see this movie.
I don’t like emran hashmi,i saw only one movie of his.
Haaa, Emraan Hashmi was a surprise package, Sari… see the movie, but be warned it is not a complete true biopic.. the message in general is about any star in the limelight who feels depressed and lonely once their time is up, the weaker ones commit suicide.. Silk is a case in point
How are you, Sari…
I’ve been missing in action so much that I need to ask or start hopping soon before I’m completely lost from blog gossip
I am fine and how are you??
Me too not blogging much, some how took some time to read blogs since yesterday. But they are few bloggers who are posting regularly, much back log for me and for you too maybe…
agree to almost ever point mentioned here with an emphasis on 3,6 & 7
in fact I thought the movie could have made for about an hour or 90 mins max..could have done better and given the message crisply…
I could not rate it 3…IMO it scores a 2! Naseruddin’s ‘It’s a curse,It’s a curse’ was wonderful no?
Take pity on Ekta and the hard work of Ms Balan for putting on weight re
if that’s what has to be rated then it alone gets 5/5
eww nothing …nothing in this world will make me Like that Emraan
I didn’t go to watch this movie just bcoz I got to know he is in it
Lolz at “Tusshar Kapoor is a waste of time and money, when will his realize that!” I think as long as his sis makes a movie, we will be forced to see him as a useless prop
I will try to watch this movie to see Vidya and Nasserudin Shah in action
Reallllllllllllly, I used to dislike him too… but my heart leaps for that smile now
Vidya is in action for sure
Enjoy
